The Week Gone By

Monday announces the birth of a new life
With every touch and every smell tingling our senses
Full of hope and wonder and without strife
Excited about possibilities and no notion of pretenses

Tuesday is when some of the wonder turns to reason
As we make the toddler to kid progression
Adapt we must with the changing season
For cuteness gives away soon to expectations

Wednesday finds us embodied as  a teenager
With rebellion in the air fueled by lots of beer
By the end of the day although we have a career
The million dollar questions is  'What in the world are we doing here ?'

Thursday is adulthood with all its fuss
With  a family and kid and and a mortgage to add some spice
And when we realize that half our life has passed us
It is time to play the Lotto and roll some dice

Friday is when we want to break loose
Wrapped with the sweet smell of retirement that is so near
It is time to twist to the tune of Footloose
Or ride the speed boat without a fear.

Saturday commences the first breath of retirement
And  the first morning tea without an email
It feels great to be unshackled from time allotment
As we put on those boots, hit a trail and let the day unveil

With Sunday the end is near but not yet there
And it is time to bid adieu with a sigh
This is an end we all share
So do reflect on the week gone by
