Hey Smartphone

Had I not been busy checking emails on my phone
I would have noticed that the person who prepared my sandwich was Kyle
And tired she looked but was always so eager to smile

Had I not been punching away yet another text message on my phone
I would have noticed that the rain had brought out the best in the trees
And the little puddles of water on the street looked like holes in a swiss cheese

Had I not been occupied refreshing Facebook statuses on my phone
I would have noticed that my son was trying to climb a slippery slope
And his quest in the park had now lost patience, energy and hope

Had I not been distracted by the red badge icons on my phone
The book in my hand would have got me into the author's mind
And created the characters in my imagination as the author designed

Had I not been struggling with my phone to capture the perfect sunset
The grand choreography of nature would not have missed my wonder
And before I could fathom its depth, the sun would not have gone under

Had I not been busy browsing through my Netflix queue on my phone
I would have realized that the movie that was on just before bedtime
Was not a comedy but infact a movie on war crime
